The region of “La Axarquía” or as it is otherwise known “Costa del Sol Oriental” (Oriental Sun Coast) includes in her territory mountains overlooking the sea, valleys, cliffs and a long stretch of coast. This is the region of Málaga which has the highest number of municipalities. It has over 30 towns, some of the most important being Rincón de la Victoria, Macharaviaya, Vélez-Málaga, Benamocarra, Iznate, Benamargosa, Frigiliana and Nerja. Almost 75 km of typical small Andalucian white-washed villages, long sea shores and fields of fertile subtropical crops.
Hotel Cortijo Bravo is situated in the centre of the Axarquía, a few minutes away from the capital of the region, Vélez-Málaga. This village, as the rest of the “pueblos” in the province has various churches, monasteries and palaces built between the 16th and 18th centuries. Vélez-Málaga was declared a Historical Artistic Site in 1970. Additionally, it is well known for its “Semana Santa” (Holy Easter Week) and its “Feria” (Spring Fair).
In another town called Rincón de la Victoria, we have one of the most famous prehistoric caves in the province of Málaga, called the “Cueva del Tesoro o del Higuerón” (Treasure Cave).
The rest of the towns Macharaviaya, Benamocarra, Iznate and Benamargosa are surrounded by plantations of tropical fruits, which have provided the name for this route. The scenery, the sun, the fruits and its coast will leave an unforgettable impression. Mangos, papayas, chirimoyas (custard apples) and above all the avocados, live together in perfect harmony with the traditional crops planted in the Axarquía. This agricultural diversity is due to the exceptional micro-climate created by the mountainous area around the Natural Parks of Tejeda, Almaha and Almijara.
Experience being with nature, breathe the wonderful aroma from the orange trees, rivers, the sea and its beaches. View the peaceful and splendid “La Maroma” mountain. Surrounded by white-washed villages full of sun, we boast having the best climate in Europe. Hotel Cortijo Bravo is situated amidst the deep green of a tropical garden on the top of a hill and only 7 km away lies the Mediterranean Sea. Here you will find the authentic essence of the South of Spain.
